James Rome Windsor was 5 years 4 months old when his Father died and 11 years 5 months when his Mother died.

There seems to be many stories about what happened to Dad after his parents died.  One story by cousin Clyde Tulbert that Mary, Snook and I heard from the first time in 1985 goes: When Dad's Mom died he and their other young kids in the family (probably Uncles Milt and Ick) were taken by wagon, by a Mr. Asberry Myers from their home place near Windsor Cross Roads to Elkin and their older married sister Amanda (Aunt Mindy) Wood's to live.  As a small kid I remember visiting and Dad being very close to Aunt Mindy but I never knew why.

We know he attended school in the Elkin area, he did barber work with Livor Cockerham, he worked at/or owned an electric shop with Walter Burgess.  He was Superintendent of Elkin City Water Works, which also furnished water and sewer service for Jonesville and Arlington, from 1914/15 until February 11, 1945 where he was put on forced uncompensated retirement, or as he put it" I was fired without any consideration whatsoever".  I'll let the newspaper clippings on the following page's) tell you the rest of that story.  There are also clippings published by the local papers that we help to fill out his biographical sketch as well as we are able to piece it together.
